The ceremony celebrating their induction featured a keynote address by Leslie Eckmann, who is retiring this year after 40 years at NCS teaching Middle School art and Upper School ceramics, and a welcome by mathematics teacher Patricia Howie, the NCS chapter president.
"We know that you will be actively engaged with identifying and solving the problems of the future. You have already made marks of your own, reused, reimagined and asked unanswerable questions, followed your curiosity, and broken rules and boundaries. These are the traits that will serve you well in the future," Ms. Eckmann told the students. The entirety of her address is available here.
The Cum Laude Society honors superior scholastic achievement in secondary schools. Each year, 20 percent of the NCS senior class is elected to membership, based on academic accomplishments in 10th through 12th grade.
