Lester ’18 Wins Top City Honor for Track & Field

Page Lester '18 has been named the Gatorade Girls Track & Field Athlete of the Year for the District of Columbia, it was announced Thursday.

Lester was the Draper Invitational 1600 meter champion this spring. Her time of 4:57.07 in the 1600 meters at the ISL Championship was 9 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher and broke the NCS record. Last August, she took third place at USA Triathlon’s junior national championships. As a freshman in 2014, she was the individual ISL Cross Country Champion, and she is a two-time ISL Champion in both the 1600 and 800 meters.

In addition to her triumphs on the track, Lester is also a force in the water. This winter, Lester (freestyle 25.08) and her 200 medley relay teammates combined for a time of 1:54.19 at the Metros Championship - B Finals, breaking the NCS record.

"Page is a model for how to train and compete with tenacity and for how to be a positive, supportive teammate," said NCS Track & Field Coach Ted Findler. "She is a leader on the track —no one in NCS history has run faster— but most importantly she leads through being the considerate, dedicated person that she is."

The award, sponsored by Gatorade in collaboration with USA TODAY High School Sports, recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character on and off the court. The announcement noted Lester's strong GPA, her participation in Chorale, and her service to the Latino Student Fund and the Nation’s Capital Swim Club.

We are proud of Lester’s many successes both on and off the track and are excited to see what she can accomplish in her junior year.
