Kimura '04 Joins Royal Stockholm Orchestra

Congratulations to Rena Kimura '04, who has secured a seat among the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra's violins. Kimura has been performing with the Stuttgart Philharmonic, and she previously was a member of the Richmond Symphony Orchestra. She is the 2012 winner of Indiana University's Glazunov Violin Concerto Competition and has also won prizes in European competitions.

The Royal Stockholm, conducted by Sakari Oramo, is internationally recognized as one of Europe's major orchestras, performing before tens of thousands each year. A highlight of its schedule is the Nobel Prize Concerts, an annual event that honors the Nobel laureates and regularly draws world-class musicians to perform.

Kimura is currently in Washington, and she opened Monday's Cathedral service with a stirring performance of Jules Massenet's "Méditation" from "Thaïs," accompanied by NCS/STA music teacher Aaron Goen. A video of it is in the Media Gallery.
