The 2015 Flag Day Awards

NCS celebrated its 115th Flag Day prize ceremony on June 5, 2015. Seventy-six seniors processed across the North Lawn of Washington National Cathedral before an audience of NCS students in grades 4-11, parents, and friends.

The Flag Day address was delivered by Haja Kamara ’15 (chosen by her classmates for this honor).

After student government leaders lowered the flag which has flown over the school during the past year, and raised a new one, Head of School Kathleen O’Neill Jamieson announced that Sarah Lipson ’15 was this year's winner of the Flag, NCS's highest academic honor.

The ceremony also marked the transfer of student government leadership from Sarah "Talley" Snow ’15 and Hannah Loughlin ’15 to Kelsi Okun ’16 and Eleanor Frank ’16.

Parents Ellen Jakovic and David Lipson announced that 95% of senior class parents have contributed to this year’s Annual Fund, a record percentage.  They also noted the senior parents’ high degree of volunteer participation, from staffing Oscar’s to Parent Association activities.

The ceremony recognized 20-year faculty and staff members Jane DeGrenier, Sandi Krotman, and Pedro Martinez and retiring faculty member Josie Jordan.

In keeping with the ceremony’s patriotic theme, Victoria Bush ‘15 sang “America the Beautiful” at the opening, and Lucie Shelley ’15, the National Anthem at its close.
