NCS Unveils a New Website Design

National Cathedral School launched a redesign of its website on Sept. 1, an update that enables the site to work better on small computers and allows users to find more quickly the information they seek.

The redesign replaces a site layout that had debuted in 2006 — when accessing the Internet involved only desktop computers. That rigid design became less useful as people began surfing the Web on their cellphones and tablets; such devices now account for more than 50 percent of all Internet activity. So the time was ripe for an approach that would look good and work well on any device. To accomplish this, Assistant Director of Digital Media Alexander Taft incorporated responsive design — the standard for modern web pages — into the site.

Assistant Director of Communications Elizabeth Gray, meanwhile, freshened the look of the site, crafting a design that is visually clean, bright, and pleasing. The new presentation of photos and news enables visitors to get a better sense at the accomplishments of NCS students, the many opportunities they enjoy in their school life, and the strength of our academic, arts, and athletics programs.

Taft and Gray also used the redesign to update the website’s navigation, which had become overly complex and made it hard for visitors to locate important information. On the new site, 90 percent of the site’s content is accessible within two clicks or taps.

Today’s launch represent the culmination of months of work by the NCS communications office. We very much hope that you will take a moment to browse through the new site, and as always, we welcome your feedback at ncswebsite@cathedral.org.
