Mitre 2015 Receives Top Honors

NCS publications won big in the annual American Scholastic Press Association contest, with the 2015 Mitre receiving top honors in the yearbook category.

Only about a dozen yearbooks are recognized each year with a first-place award with special merit -- the designation is reserved for publications that feature outstanding design and content -- and this is the first Mitre to receive such an award in more than a decade.

The association's judge reported to NCS that the Mitre's "high quality ... is indicative of the intelligence and creativity of your students. This is one of the best publications I've seen so far this year."

ASPA also recognized Half in Earnest, the NCS literary magazine, for its 2015 edition, bestowing a first-place award in the magazine category. Olivia Jia '15, whose photographs "Escape Route," "Manifest Destiny," and "Oasis" were included in the issue, was honored for outstanding photography.

Congratulations to Olivia, Mitre co-Editors in Chief Gabriella Small '15 and Isabella Small '15, HIE Editors in Chief Priya Millward '15 and Celeste Pallone '15, the entire Mitre and HIE staffs, and advisers Jennifer Dorsey, Kelly Dickenson, Paige Contreras-Gould, Geoffrey Schramm and Alexandra Sundman.
