National Cathedral School students enjoy the largest variety of activities in the Washington, D.C., area, with 13 different team sports and physical-fitness choices that include dance, strength training, and outdoor education. This diverse range of offerings allows every girl to find an exercise option that matches her talent and interests, developing skills and habits that will last a lifetime.
Once she enters the Upper School, each NCS student has the opportunity to play on a varsity team. With teammates and coaches, she will set goals, work to achieve them, and compete with dignity and pride, no matter the outcome. These experiences develop life lessons about commitment, resilience, and leadership.
The Independent School League has consistently recognized NCS as one of the top athletic programs in the region. Season after season, our teams compete for championships, and many students have earned All-Met recognition from the Washington Post. Dozens of alumnae have gone on to play college sports, their NCS experience preparing them for success not only in the classroom but also on the playing field.
Through the Independent Studies option, NCS students may pursue fitness activities outside of the school. Choices in recent years have included equestrian, figure skating, ballet, gymnastics, and fencing.
