For the third consecutive year, an NCS student is the Gatorade Girls Basketball Player of the Year for the District of Columbia.
Isabella Alarie '16 has been named the Gatorade Girls Basketball Player of the Year for the District of Columbia, it was announced Thursday.
Alarie averaged 28.3 points, 15.6 rebounds and 5.3 blocked shots per game this season, recording a double-double in every game she played.
"Isabella Alarie has been a fearless leader on our team for four years," said NCS Basketball Coach Brittany Mitch. "She is one of the hardest workers I have ever coached. She is a matchup nightmare for any opposing team, and her ever-evolving game makes her the most dynamic player in the area."
The award, sponsored by Gatorade in collaboration with USA TODAY High School Sports, recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character on and off the court. The announcement noted Alarie's strong GPA, her fluency in Mandarin Chinese, and her role as NCS Athletics Board president. Alarie will attend Princeton University this fall, where she will play basketball.
This marks the third consecutive year that an NCS student has been named the top girls basketball player in the city. Marta Sniezek '15 was a two-time recipient of the honor; she now plays at Stanford University, where she was named last month to the Pac-12 All-Freshman honorable mention team.
