Johnson '22 to Represent U.S. at World Fencing Meet
Honor Johnson, America's top-ranked 14-and-under saber fencer, earned a spot on the U.S. U-17 team at next month's Junior and Cadet World Fencing Championships in Italy.
Honor Johnson '22, America's top-ranked 14-and-under saber fencer, will represent the United States next month at the Junior and Cadet World Fencing Championships in Verona, Italy.
"It's pretty awesome and an honor to represent ... the U.S., and I'm super excited to spend a week in Italy," Johnson said.
She will join Ryan Jenkins of San Juan Capistrano, Calif., and Alexis Anglade of Alpharetta, Ga., in making up the U.S. cadet (17-and-under) saber team for the April 1-9 tournament.
Johnson helped secure her spot on the U.S. squad with two silver-medal performances this season — at a European Cadet Cup tournament in Poland and at the October North American Cup in Anaheim, Calif. — and two other top-10 finishes at national meets. A thumb injury sidelined her this winter from other qualifying tournaments, but she said, "I've been working hard and staying focused — even training on the left side while my right side healed from surgery."
Congratulations to Honor, and good luck in fair Verona!
