Year-End Awards for Upper School Students

NCS recently awarded several year-end prizes and honors to Upper School students, while others were recognized by outside organizations.
NCS recently awarded the following year-end prizes and honors to six Upper School students:

Outstanding Performing Artist of the Year: Anna Youngkin '18
Youngkin and Christian Potter STA '18 were elected by classmates at their respective schools. Youngkin had lead roles in both the Upper School play and musical this year, and she sang with the Madrigal Singers and Chorale.

Lorna Cogswell Mason Prize: Mallory Moore '18 and Kimberly Tan '18
The family of Lorna Cogswell Mason '55 endowed this award to support and honor historical research at NCS. The prize goes to the senior whose junior-year independent research paper is judged by the Social Sciences Department as the best of the year. Moore's paper examined the U.S. Food Administration, while Tan's considered the impact of religious voices on the Confederacy.

Rensselaer Medal Award: Nina Miller '19
Since 1916, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute has awarded the Rensselaer Medal to juniors who have distinguished themselves in mathematics and science. At NCS, the recipient is decided jointly by the Science and Mathematics departments.

Fisher Family Award: Shannon Ayres '19
Established by the Fisher Family Foundation in 1999, this prize honors an outstanding contributor to the NCS community, one who helps to foster interest and involvement in activities that bring people together.

Susan Ajello Award for International Scholars: Nisa Quarles '21
The award was established in memory of the mother of Christina Ajello '02 and Stephanie Ajello '05 by her family, her friends, and other loyal supporters of international studies at NCS. It supports participation in NCS school-sponsored exchanges and trips, and Quarles used the award to join the Upper School Chorale and Orchestra's performance tour of England this spring.

In addition, several other NCS students were recently recognized by outside organizations:

Annie King '19 and Margaret Herbold '19 were honored by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society along with Cameron Chiaramonte STA '19 for their leadership in raising more than $63,000 in its Students of the Year campaign. Other NCS members of Team Close Cares were Chloe Conaghan '19, Olivia Egge '19, Peyton Gordon '19, Emily Hester '19, Mady Jones '18, Christina Nordby '19, Elisabeth Sicoli '19, and Leila Wass '19.

Naomi Davy '18 won honorable mention in the Washington Regional Transplant Community's Leslie A. Ebert Legacy of Life Scholarship Program for her essay about organ donation.

Jacqueline Cavallin '24 won first prize in Washington Performing Arts' Feder Memorial Strings Competition with her violin playing.

Congratulations to all these students for the recognition of their accomplishments!
