NCS seeks applicants with a vision for advancing an individualized, student-centered model for college guidance, the ability to develop supportive relationships with families, and a commitment to serving students from diverse backgrounds. Candidates must have a strong understanding of the developmental needs of adolescents and be attuned to the changing nature of the college admissions process. In addition, candidates must possess a thorough understanding of financial aid, standardized testing, and knowledge of secondary and college/university curricula. The director serves on several academic committees, engages in significant work with department chairs and class deans, advises students on course selections, oversees faculty writing of student recommendations, and manages a caseload of 40-45 students. The director must be willing to work outside of school hours (including for travel) on nights and weekends, as needed, and serve other duties typical for faculty and staff. The director prepares regular updates for the Head of School and Governing Board and reports to the Associate Head/Head of the Upper School.
Qualified applicants hold a bachelor's degree (master's degree preferred) and at least five years of experience in college counseling/admissions. Salaries are competitive, based on experience. NCS is committed to leadership in multicultural education and a culturally diverse faculty and staff. The school therefore seeks applications from candidates who will contribute to an atmosphere in which all are valued and supported.
