29 NCS Students Win Honors in Arts Contest

The annual Scholastic Art & Writing Awards has honored 11 NCS students for creating the most accomplished works in the region.
 
The artists and their winning category are:

  • Alexandra Bamford '19 (Ceramics & Glass)
  • Sophia Charles '20 (Personal Essay/Memoir)
  • Zandi Eberstadt '20 (Critical Essay)
  • Olivia Egge '19 (Personal Essay/Memoir)
  • Lucy Freemyer '20 (Ceramics & Glass)
  • Madeline King '22 (Photography)
  • Julia Maaia '22 (Drawing and Illustration)
  • Gillian Moore '20 (Drawing and Illustration)
  • Lucy Savin '22 (Photography)
  • Maggie Wang '19 (Poetry)
Each now advances to the national Scholastic Art & Writing Awards competition, where winners receive scholarships.
 
In all, 29 NCS students were recognized in this year's regional Art & Writing Awards; presented by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, the competition highlights students with exceptional artistic and literary talent. Silver Keys were awarded for distinguished works, and promising works received honorable mention.
 
Ten students won multiple awards: Moore, King, Savin, Maggie Wang, Julia Buzacott '21, Chloe Campbell '19, Sydney Featherstone '20, Amelia Griffin '20, Katherine Leahy '19, and Jamie Wang '19.
 
And 10 were repeat honorees: Leahy and Jamie Wang were recognized for the third consecutive year; Bamford, Buzacott, Charles, Ella Bruno '20, Freemyer, Griffin, Leahy, and Moore for the second time.
 
All award recipients will be honored March 10 at the Sixth and I Historic Synagogue in Washington, D.C. The Media Gallery includes a selection of this year's Gold and Silver Key-winning visual works. Following is a complete list of the NCS artists and writers who were recognized:
