Megan Craven '21 broke two NCS records during the 2018-2019 swimming season, including a 30-year-old mark that was among the school's longest-standing.
And Dorothy Shapiro '19 completed her diving career at NCS with her best-ever finish at the Washington Metro Championships, capping a season-ending trio of silver medals.
Craven set new NCS standards in the 100-yard breaststroke (1 minute, 6.63 seconds) and 100-yard freestyle (53.48 seconds). The previous records had been held, respectively, by Phoebe McCormick Lickwar '90 (1:06.92), set in 1989, and Morgan Johnson '14 (53.54), set in 2012.
Craven's first record came in the Independent School League Championships on Jan. 25, when she took second place in the 100 free, just behind Madeira senior Meaghan Doyle. Craven also took fourth place in the 50 free and swam on the fifth-place freestyle relay and the seventh-place medley relay.
A week later at the Washington Metropolitan Prep School Swim & Dive League Championships, Craven broke McCormick Lickwar's breaststroke record, taking second place behind Potomac senior Annie Tuttle in 1:06.91.
Then on Wednesday at the Washington Metros, Craven lowered her breaststroke record again to 1:06.63, taking 14th place.
Shapiro finished second at Metros with her third consecutive 400-point performance. Over her career, she finished in the top three in nine of 12 meets, including three ISL titles, and set a school record at last year's ISLs with a score of 451.30 points.
