Barta '22 Named to US National Team in Track and Field
U.S. Paralympics Track & Field's selection of Sydney Barta follows its naming of her as High School Field Athlete of the Year.
Sydney Barta '22 has been named to the 2020 U.S. Paralympics Track & Field National Team, her latest recognition in a phenomenal athletic year.
In November, Barta was named High School Field Athlete of the Year and a high school All-American by U.S. Paralympics Track & Field, and she had three top-10 finishes at the 2019 World Para Athletics Championships in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Last summer, Barta won gold and bronze medals at the Parapan American Games in Lima, Peru, and she swept the under-17 T64 100 and 200 meters at the junior world championships—her first time competing for Team USA.
At NCS, Barta is a member of the varsity volleyball, basketball, and track and field teams. Internationally, she competes in the T64/F64 classification in the 100 and 200 meters, discus, javelin, shot put, and long jump.
U.S. Paralympic Team Trials will be held June 25-28 in Minneapolis to determine which athletes will represent the United States in Tokyo. The 2020 Paralympic Games will be held Aug. 25 to Sept. 6.
