Associate Director of College Guidance

National Cathedral School (NCS) seeks an Associate Director of College Guidance beginning on or around July 1, 2022. This is a full-time, 12-month, administrative staff position that reports to the Director of College Guidance.
 
The new counselor will work closely with the Director of College Guidance and additional Associate/Assistant Director to counsel a class of approximately 70 – 80 students and families through the college search and admissions process.

NCS seeks applications from those who are attuned to strategies related to college counseling and who are prepared to support the strategic mission of the student-centered model for college guidance at the school. The successful candidate must be adept at working in partnership with students to help them articulate their admissions profile to colleges and universities.
 
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Establishing relationships with college admission officers on behalf of the school and the students
  • Writing letters of recommendation for assigned students
  • Understanding admission data and trends
  • Organizing and presenting workshops and meetings for parents and students
  • Conducting individual and small group meetings with students and parents regarding all aspects of the college application process
  • Assisting with standardized testing (PSAT and AP; NCS is not an SAT or ACT national test center)
  • Serving as advisor to a group of students
  • Participating in professional development opportunities.
 
The candidate should be prepared to serve other duties typical for faculty and staff at an independent school. The position requires superior oral and written communication skills and the ability to organize and meet deadlines. Explaining the process to parents and contextualizing the outcome of college decisions is an essential part of this job. The successful candidate will also exhibit creativity, enthusiasm, and a demonstrated interest in working with teenagers.
 
Qualified applicants hold at least a Bachelor’s degree and at least three to five years of experience in college counseling and/or college admissions. Salary is competitive, based on experience, and the position includes a full benefits package.
