NCS students are involved in many activities both in and outside of school. Here are recent reports about four of our Upper School seniors.
Kate Adamson, a student of classical ballet at the Washington School of Ballet, was one of 12 young adults who received a $1,5000 scholarship at The Washington Post Music & Dance Scholarship Awards program held on November 6 at the Warner Theatre. The 150 applicants were judged on their academic records, performance tapes, and essays on the importance of the arts. Kate has been studying classical ballet for 13 years and currently is studying at the school’s most advanced level. Also of note, Kate was a Solo Finalist (one of 156 worldwide) in the 2006 Youth America Grand Prix in the Senior Classical Ballet and Contemporary categories.
Based on a paper she wrote about George Washington, Vanessa Lukas was selected by the Virginia Historical Society to be a participant in the 2006 Wyndham B. Blanton Scholars Forum. This year’s forum featured David McCullough, author of 1776, who discussed the craft of writing history.
Eleony (Nini) Moorhead received a 2006 Certificate for Superior Writing from the National Council of Teachers in English. This award honors high school seniors with writing talent who have been nominated by their teachers and judged by a panel of English teachers from throughout the District of Columbia. Nini is one of two students who won this year’s award.
