1V Crew Takes Silver in Photo Finish at VASRA Championships

NCS’ first varsity eight (1V) and second varsity (2V) crews raced to silver and bronze respectively at the Virginia Scholastic Rowing Association (VASRA)’s championships on May 22.
NCS’ first varsity eight (1V) and second varsity (2V) crews raced to silver and bronze respectively at the Virginia Scholastic Rowing Association (VASRA)’s championships on May 22.

A late sprint by the 1V crew in the first eight final race made for a thrilling finish for the wildly cheering NCS fans. The race was so close that officials had to consult a frame-by-frame replay captured by recording equipment to determine the winner. Only three one-hundreds of a second separated NCS’ 1V from the gold, which went to Robinson Secondary School. T.C. Williams finished third. Click here for details from the May 23 Washington Post.

NCS’ 2V crew also distinguished themselves in the VASRA races held at the Occoquan Reservoir, bringing home the bronze in a race against TC Williams and Visitation.  Congratulations to all our rowers for a terrific showing!

Next up:  The 1V will travel to Nationals (the 76th Scholastic National Regatta) in Saratoga Springs, NY, May 28-29.
