As in years past, many NCS students are taking part in performances of The Nutcracker across the region.
Maya Bhalla-Ladd ’15 and Aaron Hilton (STA '15) danced together in all seven performances of the Joffrey Ballet’s version of The Nutcracker at the Kennedy Center over the Thanksgiving week. They were “Mice” in the first act battle scene and “Polichinelles” with Mother Ginger in the second act. Also performing as singers were several members of the Middle School Chorus: Grace Brigham ’16, Gracie Cary ’15, Elizabeth Crowdus ’16, Hannah Loughlin ’15, Catherine Patton ’15, Bronwyn Redvers-Lee ’16, Theresa Schaberg ’15, and Kenya Waugh ’15.
Over a dozen NCS students are now taking part in the Washington Ballet’s Nutcracker at the Warner Theatre, Dec. 2-26. They juggle academics with performances, dancing with other area schoolchildren in what the Washington Post calls a “spectacular eyeful.” More than one student dancer is assigned to each role, so most have some nights off. Two of the three Claras, the young girl at the center of the ballet's story, are from NCS: Lily Casscells ‘16 is performing as Clara for the first time, Christie Campbell '14 for the second year in a row. Because of the number of other roles she performs, Christie is dancing in all 35 performances. All of the NCS dancers and their roles in the Washington Ballet production include:
Upper School
Christie Campbell’14: Clara, Snowflake, Flower, Chinese, Big Butterfly
Hailey Murray 14: Frontier Girl
Erin Napoleon ‘14: Little Butterfly
