Katharine Holmes '11 Moves Up in the Ranks of World Fencing

This NCS senior is ranked #1 in Junior Women’s Epee in the US—and she’s not done yet!
Senior Katharine Holmes just returned from the 2011 Junior and Cadet Fencing World Championships in Jordan, where she was one of three members of the United States Junior Women’s Epee Team. Competing against teams from 88 countries, the US team finished in 5th place.

This was Katharine’s third time representing the US at the Junior and Cadet World Championships. She also competed at Junior and Cadet World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan in 2010 and Belfast, Northern Ireland in 2009.

It’s been quite a year for Katharine. This season, prior to competing in Jordan, Katharine competed in four Junior World Cups: in Burgos, Spain; Dijon, France; Goteborg, Sweden; and Modling, Austria—finishing in the top 10 in each one!

She also competed in two North American Cups, winning the gold medal in the Junior Women’s Epee event in both. She finished the 2010-2011 season ranked #1 in Junior Women’s Epee in the United States.

Next, Katharine heads to Portland, Oregon for the U.S. Senior National Championships, April 15-18, 2011. She is currently ranked #7 in the US in Senior Women’s Epee. In May, she will be competing in her first Senior World Cup in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Congratulations, Katharine--we're very proud of you!
