Historic Hearst Hall Safe after Earthquake; NCS Open August 25

Building inspections find little damage; normal operations will resume Thursday.
In the wake of the August 23 earthquake that shook the region, National Cathedral School’s Hearst, Scott, Procter, and Founders Halls have now been inspected and declared safe for occupancy; NCS will resume normal operations tomorrow, Thursday, August 25.

An arched stone over the south entrance of Hearst Hall was loose and has been removed. The remainder of NCS' buildings are being inspected today, August 24. Work on the renovation of Founders Hall is unaffected and is proceeding on schedule for completion by the start of school on September 7.

In a message to the school community, Head of School Kathleen O’Neill Jamieson said, “It’s an appropriate moment to express our gratitude that there were no injuries associated with this event, and for the multiple blessings that we share as a members of the Close community. We look forward to resuming our regular schedule tomorrow as we welcome new faculty and staff and prepare for a lively and productive school year.”
