Helping the Homeless in DC

Four NCS juniors helped during a record-breaking drive for the homeless.
The Class of 2013’s Ellie Durling, Elizabeth Keto, Cara Lee, and Lauren Mott  took part in this year’s Gifts for the Homeless (GFTH) used clothing drive for the greater metropolitan area.  On Dec. 3 they were among a record-breaking number of 390 volunteers who came to sort, bag, and deliver 3,668 large bags of clothes to 63 different shelters in the area.

Lauren Mott has been volunteering at the non-profit GFTH for many years. “Each fall, we gather, sort and deliver nearly 4,000 bags of clothing to  shelters and homeless service providers in the metropolitan area,"  she said. "It all takes place over a three-day period as part of a massive, city-wide used clothing drive among lawyers, staff working in DC, and many volunteers.”

Turns out that NCS’s involvement is multigenerational: alumna Laurie Glassman, Class of '67, is GFTH vice president of development!
