Upper School Artists Honored

NCS students earned regional honors in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.
This winter, 21 Upper School students earned regional honors in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, a national competition for students in grades 7 through 12. Entrants may submit pieces in 28 different art and writing categories for a chance at national recognition, scholarships, and exhibition or publication of their work. The awards date back to 1923 and past winners have included such famous artists as Andy Warhol, Sylvia Plath, Truman Capote, Richard Avedon, Robert Redford, and Joyce Carol Oates.

Students who earn Gold Key awards at the regional level will go on to compete for national awards. This year, NCS had seven regional Gold Key winners, the highest level of achievement at the regional level comprising 7-10 percent of all submissions. NCS students also earned four Silver Key awards, awarded to 10-15 percent of submissions, and 10 Honorable Mentions, awarded to 15-20 percent of all entrants.
