Lower School Guild Sings National Anthem at Major League Game
And they sounded great! See video and stills from an amazing day.
The Lower School Guild, under the direction of Tanya Coyne, had a whirlwind singing tour on Monday, June 4, capped by an appearance to sing the national anthem at the opening of a National League game in Philadelphia. You can see them sing the anthem in this video clip.
Photos of the trip by Duncan Ryder (father of Camilla ’18) can be seen and downloaded from our website gallery.
Departing from school at noon, the Guild first sang at the Baltimore Inner Harbor Amphitheatre as part of the lunchtime concert series. Next, they sang at the Baltimore Basilica; the Basilica is closed due to earthquake repair, but they sang there to experience the structure’s amazing acoustics. Finally, they arrived at Citizens Bank Field in Philadelphia in time to sing the national anthem at 6:55 pm before the first pitch of a game between the Phillies and the LA Dodgers. The Guild sounded and looked great, and NCS is very proud of them!
Afterwards, everyone got ballpark food and watched the game. The group left when the game was tied 3-3 (the Dodgers won in the 9th inning, 4-3). The bus got back to DC around midnight, with very tired but happy passengers!
“I couldn’t have managed this trip without this patient, gracious, thoughtful, and energetic volunteers,” said Ms. Coyne. “Sixty-plus girls form an impressive amoeba to navigate through a MLB stadium--nicely done, team! Thanks also to parents who met us at the stadium to cheer us on! The Guild loves its ‘roadies!’”
