Our varsity soccer team claimed a championship by defeating Georgetown Visitation 7-6 on Nov. 4.
The CVS (Cathedral Varsity Soccer) team claimed a championship on Sunday, Nov. 4 at Episcopal High School by defeating a tough Georgetown Visitation team 7-6 in penalty kicks.
The ending to this year's story could not have been scripted any better for first-year coach Danielle Malagari and the team's four seniors, Tori Hanway, Emily Hester, Megan Klebanoff, and Nicole Johnson. The Eagles were in the exact same posiition last year in the tournament final but came up short in their mission to win the cup.
The team would not be denied this year and fought back from a 1-0 deficit early in the game. The Eagles played tremendous team soccer for 90 minutes and kept fighting for possession and chance to score. With 1:40 left in regulation, Rubii Tamen '15 slipped a deflection past the Visitation goalkeeper to tie the game 1-1. NCS goalkeeper Erica Sanders '16 proved to be a deciding factor in the victory with her two saves on penalty kicks sealing the victory.
Congratulations to all of the players, coaches, and families!
