New Head of Lower School Appointed
Rebecca Jones has been named director of NCS's Lower School, effective July 1.
In a message to the NCS community on February 15, 2013, Head of School Kathleen O'Neill Jamieson announced the appointment of Rebecca Jones as director of the Lower School of National Cathedral School, effective July 1. "Ms. Jones comes to NCS with substantial professional experience, both in the classroom and in school management," said Mrs. Jamieson.
Ms. Jones has been a teacher and administrator in the Montgomery County Public Schools for the past 18 years, steadily progressing from the position of classroom teacher to principal. From 1995 to 2003, she first taught grades 4 and 5 and then computer science in grades K-5 at Carderock Springs Elementary School. She served as assistant principal at the Highland Elementary School (2003-2005) before becoming principal at the Damascus Elementary School (2005-2010). She is currently principal of the Westbrook Elementary School in Bethesda, which serves 430 students. As the sole administrator at Westbrook, she has multiple responsibilities, including financial oversight, recruitment, and communications.
"We are grateful that Molly Hemphill has led the Lower School this year with glorious enthusiasm, commitment, excellence, and care," said Mrs. Jamieson. "We are delighted with the conclusion of our search and look forward to welcoming Ms. Jones to the NCS family."

"Ms. Jones has championed innovation in the schools she has worked in, from the implementation of new curriculum to the creation of a new school schedule. She is a collaborative leader, and looks forward to working with our teachers, students, and parents," said Mrs. Jamieson. "As a graduate of the all-girls Emma Willard School in Troy, NY (Class of 1988), she also understands the unique character and benefits of an all-girls education."
Ms. Jones holds a B.A. in Psychology from Ithaca College (1992) and an M.A. in Elementary Education from American University (1994). She earned a certificate in Administration and Supervision from Johns Hopkins University in 2003.
NCS, which serves 581 students, has three divisions: the Lower School (grades 4-6); the Middle School (grades 7-8) and the Upper School (grades 9-12).
