On Saturday, January 31st, the NCS crew team competed at the Mid-Atlantic Erg Sprints at TC Williams High School in Alexandria, VA. Our rowers in winter conditioning participated in the women's 20 minute row, in which over 190 local athletes participated. In this event, the athlete's endurance is tested to see how many meters they can row in twenty minutes.
NCS had a great showing, placing 8 girls in the top 20 of the open weight row. Serena Irwin '17 and Julia Gorka '15 had great rows and placed just out of the medals in 4th and 6th respectively. Isabel Bogart '16 took the bronze medal, and Hadley Irwin '16 walked away with the gold. The team also placed two girls in the top 10 of the lightweight row, Katya Amelung '16 taking 7th, and Arianna DiGregorio '16 earning the bronze medal.
Two freshmen, Amelia Parizek '18 and Beata Corcoran '18 placed in the top 20 as well. Beata stuck around all day and took gold in the Parent/Child row later in the day with her father.
A great day all around for the Eagles. The team saw many personal bests and got a first look at our competition for the spring. Now we just need it to warm up so we can get on the water! Many thanks to all the supportive parents who came to cheer us on, to the whole coaching staff, and our great leadership at the school including Heather Dent and Paul Berry. Go Eagles!
