Parents Association

Welcome to the NCS Parents Association

The Parents Association (PA) works in partnership with the school administration, faculty, and staff to support the educational experience of our daughters and to enrich the community as a whole. Since the 1950s, parents have contributed their expertise, time, and energy to the PA and have been an integral part of building a strong NCS community. The Parents Association meets monthly to conduct business as well as listen to a featured speaker from the school’s faculty or staff discuss the exciting, challenging, and unique educational programs our girls experience. It is also an excellent opportunity to meet and socialize with parents from all three divisions of the school.
There are many opportunities for you to participate in the PA throughout the year. Our biggest events include Fallfest, the Spring Benefit, and the Flower Mart Used Book Sale. Fallfest fosters Eagle pride through outdoor events, Purple vs. Gold competitions in the Lower School, and varsity Homecoming games. The Spring Benefit is an annual dinner and auction fundraiser held in March for the benefit of our faculty and student scholarships. The Flower Mart Used Book Sale takes place the first Friday and Saturday of May and raises money for the beautiful gardens and grounds of the Close. Since the 1960s, the PA has sponsored the Book Sale in this effort. Other key events include Parent Education Lecture Series and Winter/Spring Fests.

Year-round, NCS parents staff Oscar’s Snack Bar, a parent-run healthy snack bar in the Athletic Center, coordinate delicious international school lunches that celebrate diverse communities and cultures, and organize artistic outings at local museums and theaters. While these are just a few examples, NCS parent volunteers can always be found around NCS supporting the school and fostering community among the parents, students, and faculty.

About the Parents Association

All NCS parents are automatically members of the Parents Association (PA). The purpose of the association is to promote and sustain an effective working partnership between parents and the school. To this end, the PA provides information on matters of interest to parents and helps to educate parents about issues and ways to work most effectively with the school. These goals are achieved through the following:
  • monthly meetings of the association;
  • parent involvement in class activities and social events;
  • special all-school and division programs on various topics.
The PA also works to help nurture the school's relationship with the institutions on the Cathedral Close and with other secondary institutions in the Washington metropolitan area.
The goals of the PA are implemented through the PA Executive Committee, which consists of the elected officers of the association, the chairpersons of its standing committees, and representatives from and to St. Albans School and the Parents Council of Washington. The president of the PA sits as an ex officio member of the NCS Governing Board for the term of her or his office.
