The process of applying to independent schools can be exciting, confusing, fun, challenging, time-consuming, and, we hope, satisfying. As you pursue the best school match for your daughter, the NCS admission team wants to make this process as straightforward as possible. To that end, we and many other D.C.-area schools are using an online admission portal that allows you to apply to multiple schools. There you can also track the status of your application, including admission decisions, and register for NCS admission events, including our open house, tours, and interviews. If you have any questions throughout this admission season and beyond, please contact our office.
An NCS application begins by registering in our admission portal
. Once logged in, you will find details for the grade(s) to which you are applying. Here is an overview of that process:
A grade 4-6 application consists of a completed application form, a student questionnaire, a parent questionnaire, a student visit, two teacher recommendations, and the previous and current years’ school transcripts.
5th- and 6th-grade applicants must also submit SSAT or ISEE test scores to complete the application.
MIDDLE AND UPPER SCHOOL
A grade 7-12 application consists of a completed application form, student questionnaire and essay, parent questionnaire, student interview, SSAT or ISEE score, English and math teacher recommendations, and the previous and current years’ school transcripts.
The application information allows the NCS admission committee (made up of members of the faculty, administration and admission team) to consider the prospective student as a scholar and as a person. Along with looking for a strong academic fit between the student and the school, the committee pays attention to each student’s desire to participate in the many opportunities to become a woman for the world, whether that is on the field, onstage, in the engineering garage, in chapel services, on student government, in the Math League or on a unique path that she intends to carve.
Applications are due Jan. 15, 2018.
Admission decisions will be announced at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 2, 2018.
