  • Q. Which platforms support the NCS Alumnae App?

    This app is currently available for the iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, and Android devices. Blackberry currently does not support the application.
  • Q. I'm concerned about my privacy. How does this map function know where I am?

    Directory and mapping information is pulled from our secure online directory (you may access it by logging in and clicking "Directory" to the left).  The mapping feature is NOT tracking your movements in real time, but rather marks out your home address with a marker, just as if you copied an address from the directory and pasted it into Google Maps.  

    If you would like to change your directory publish access, you may do so by logging in and clicking "My Profile." Detailed directions for how to make the changes may be found by clicking here.
  • Q. The app is asking me to log in; where do I get my login credentials?

    The login credentials are the same as those for the NCS website.  If you do not know them, please email Alexander Taft, website and portal manager, or you may request your credentials from the website directly by clicking the link "Forgot Your Login? First Time Logging In?" underneath the login screen to the left.  Please follow the instructions carefully; you may also find video instructions by clicking here.
  • Q. Can I change my profile information in the mobile app? 

    To protect the integrity of the alumnae database, you cannot directly change contact information in the mobile app. We do want to make it easy to update us with new contact information through the mobile app by selecting “Update My Profile.” NCS will make the changes for you and your profile will be updated, but this may take a day or two.

    You can also directly make contact changes by signing into the NCS website and clicking "My Profile."
  • Q. I've just followed your instructions by updating my contact information and unpublished some fields from the online directory. However, when I look at my profile on the app, nothing seems to have changed. What's wrong?

    Updates to permissions and information typically post about 4 am each day. Please be patient while these changes occur.

    Also, because you are logged into the mobile app directory, you will see all of your available contact information in the database, but that does not mean that it is all viewable by other alumnae. If you continue to experience problems or have concerns, please email Alexander Taft, wesbite and portal manager.
  • Q.
    My classmate's email is wrong; can I "Suggest an Update" for her?

    Absolutely!  The "Suggest an Update" feature sends our offices a notification, and we will verify the new information before updating our databases.  We encourage you to browse through your friends' and classmates' directory listings to help us make sure we have the most up-to-date information possible.
  • Q. Why do I get an error message stating "Your session has expired or is invalid?"

    For security purposes, the NCS Alumnae App will automatically time out of the directory after a certain period of inactivity. You need to hit “okay" and return to the dashboard. Next time you enter a secure portion of the app, you will be prompted to re-enter your password.  We take security very seriously!
  • Q. When using "NCS Nearby," how do I know who is in the area and in my class year?

    You may either click on the individual NCS shields, or click the list button in the upper right-hand corner. This will generate a list of the alumnae in the area sorted by class year.  

    If you live in Washington, DC, please note: Due to the high number of local addresses in our database, especially for recent grads, you may not be able to see your class year. Please consider instead using the directory from the main website where you have greater ability to filter. We hope to have the ability to filter graduation years in this Alumnae App soon.
  • Q. Will the "Notes" I post in the mobile app appear in NCS Magazine's Class Notes?

    No. "Notes" in the mobile app have the advantage of posting in real time and will serve to instantly share photos and a brief note about your whereabouts and/or activities.  It will not be published in the magazine. However, feel free to follow up with a more detailed class note for the magazine by sending photos and text to lijones@cathedral.org.

    In time, we hope to integrate more features from this app with our published class notes. We will keep you posted!
  • Q. What are the different privacy settings in Notes?  I don't want to share with the "entire public!"

    We recognize that these categories can be a little confusing, and we are working to make them more user-friendly.  In terms of privacy settings, please know that anything you post to the Notes section will be visible to the entire alumnae population regardless of what you check. The "entire public" is really just the "entire population of app users" which we restrict to alumnae only.

    In the future we hope to develop the ability to post to your class only as well.
