NCS Varsity Field Hockey Falls to Good Counsel in Season Opener
The NCS Varsity Field Hockey Team lost 3-0 to non-league opponent Good Counsel in the team’s season opener on Friday, September 11. Good Counsel dominated the play in the first half, and despite strong play in goal by Samantha Gibby ‘19 (12 saves), Good Counsel took a 2-0 lead into halftime. In the second half, NCS was able to move the ball more effectively and generated penalty corners and some high quality scoring chances, led by the front line of Selin Everett ‘17, Margaret Dent ‘16, and Claire McGinnis ‘17 and the midfield trio of Meghan McGovern ‘17, Natalie Belt ‘16, and co-Captain Rosie Delk ‘16. The Eagles were not able to convert, however, and Good Counsel mounted renewed pressure on the NCS defensive circle. Despite strong defensive play by Addy Wolf ‘17 (a team-leading 9 tackles and 3 goal-line saves), Meredith Sherman ‘16 (8 tackles), and goalie Ellie Frank ‘16 (10 saves), Good Counsel was eventually able to add a second-half goal for the 3-0 final score.
