The NCS Varsity Field Hockey team won its fourth game in a row with a 2-0 home win over ISL opponent Holton-Arms on Tuesday, October 6. The forward combination of Selin Everett '17 (2 goals) and Claire McGinnis '17 (2 assists) was responsible for both goals. NCS scored its first goal at the 12 minute mark of the first half, after McGinnis worked the ball into the center of the circle and made a beautiful crossing pass to Everett on the left post. NCS had several more good scoring chances in the half, as strong midfield play from Meghan McGovern '17 and Natalie Belt '16 on the outsides helped the Eagles maintain possession and generate shots on goal. However, the Holton goalie stymied any further first-half scoring and the Eagles carried a one-goal lead into halftime. In the second half, Holton generated more offensive pressure, with five of their seven shots on goal, but NCS defenders Fiona Heaps '19, Mia Millstein '19, co-captain Hadley Irwin '16, and Addy Wolf '17 helped clear the ball away from goalie Sam Gibby '19 (seven saves in the game). Midway through the second half, NCS was able to mount sustained pressure on the Holton defensive circle, sparked by strong midfield play from Belt, McGovern, co-Captain Rosie Delk '16, and Serena Irwin '17. The Eagles generated six penalty corners in the second half, and converted on one at the 18 minute mark when McGinnis received the insertion pass from McGovern, fired a crossing pass, and Everett put it home for the insurance goal. With the win, the Eagles are 5-2-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the ISL.
