NCS Varsity Field Hockey Loses 1-0 to Bullis on the Road

The NCS Varsity Field Hockey team lost 1-0 to ISL opponent Bullis in an away game on Thursday, October 8.  The game was a closely fought contest, in which each team had seven shots on goal, but Bullis was able to score the lone goal.  In the opening few moments of the game, the Eagles had a golden opportunity to score on a rebound that rolled across the Bullis goal mouth after the initial save, but NCS was unable to get a stick on it and put it away.  During the remainder of the half, NCS periodically was able to pressure offensively but could not convert.  Bullis was also held scoreless in the first half, as NCS defenders Fiona Heaps ‘19, Mia Millstein ‘19, Addy Wolf ‘17, and co-Captain Hadley Irwin ‘16 did a good job at keeping the play out of the NCS defensive circle.  In the second half, Bullis came out strongly and began to dominate the field position game.  With 18 minutes to play, Bullis capitalized on a man-up fast break to send a good pass low into the circle.  NCS goalie Sam Gibby ‘19 made the initial save but could not make the save on the rebound.  NCS drew a corner at the 12 minute mark and had a good opportunity to score the tying goal, but what appeared to be a goal was negated when the ball hit an NCS player’s foot.  A strong and active Bullis defense was able to stymie the Eagles for the rest of the game and Bullis came away with the 1-0 win.
