NCS Crew Dedicates Boat to Longtime Employee

The NCS crew named its newest shell the Edward Magoba, honoring a "champion of compassion and contribution to others."
On Saturday, the NCS crew team dedicated its newest boat to Ed Magoba, a school employee for 37 years.

Mr. Magoba drives NCS teams to most athletic competitions, and he is renowned for his good cheer and stalwart support of every Eagle team.

NCS crew coach Greg King said during the dedication ceremony, "While Ed is not a teacher, he has taught us day-in and day-out how to be a good person. The girls chose to name this boat for Ed because of his relentless spirit and positivity. He is an entirely selfless individual who never speaks with bad intention, never needs a reason to give or help people, and cares without expectation. ... Ed stands as a champion of compassion and contribution to others."

St. Albans also dedicated its newest boat, to alumnus Vadim Medish '12. The Rev. Eva Cavaleri, NCS senior chaplain, blessed both boats.

The ceremony came after the Charlie Butt regatta, where the NCS and STA crews swept the varsity eight races. Photos from the ceremony are posted in the Media Gallery, and a short video is at http://bit.ly/magoba.
