Cathedral Crew Dedicates New Shell to Cherished Member of the Community

Last weekend the NCS girls rowed in the Charlie Butt Regatta, their last home regatta of the year. The weather was perfect for rowing and held off the springtime Saturday water and foot traffic that can complicate rowing on the Georgetown Waterfront. Some fierce competitors came to TBC to face off against the Eagles including McLean High School, TC Williams, Washington-Lee, James Madison, Yorktown, Georgetown Visitation.

The freshmen eight rowed through their morning heat with a lot aggression, never backed off and took first to move on. They fell short in the final to TC Williams high school, who they will see again next weekend at the Ted Phoenix Regatta to contend for the State Championship.

The third boat rowed a final-only race with a clear purpose and blitzed down the course, beating the competition by 32 seconds. This boat was a mix of all classes, from freshmen to seniors, that came together to win the event.

The second boat had a great set of races, winning their heat with some ease, and pushing to an open water win in the final.

The first boat also had a heat and final progression, and moved on through a competitive heat in the morning. They went on to win the final by open water and it was the first race for our new shell.

After the races the new NCS shell was dedicated to longtime NCS employee, Edward Magoba. In a touching ceremony that recognized both Vadim Medish of St. Albans and Edward Magoba, the NCS community showed their appreciation of the many contributions made by these two amazing individuals. One of NCS's biggest fans, Edward can always be found on the sidelines of our games cheering us on, helping out in the athletic center, or getting us to our away games safely and on time. While Edward is not an academic teacher at NCS, he is a teacher of life and stands as an example selflessness, as a man who never asks for credit, and is always willing to lend a hand. We thank Edward for everything he has done for our team.
