Tennis, Crew, and Softball Teams Capture Titles

NCS's tennis, softball, and crew teams brought championship banners back to the Close, adding to what has become a fantastic spring sports season.

National Cathedral School swept the senior-eight and second-eight titles at the Stotesbury Regatta. NCS is one of only two schools to win both races in one regatta, and the Eagles have now done so in back-to-back years.

Nine members of the crew, all juniors (Beata Corcoran, Naomi Davy, Sophie Dunn, Caroline Garcia, Aurora Meyer, Amelia Parizek, Eva Phelps, Camilla Ryder, and Hannah Yazdani), won their third consecutive gold medal at Stotesbury. All were in the NCS boat that captured the freshman eight race in 2015.

Two other teams—the junior four and freshman eight—reached the semifinals, where they both placed third in their heats.

Varsity softball won its second straight District of Columbia State Athletic Association (DCSAA) championship—and its fourth in five years—by holding off Sidwell Friends in the title game, 4-3. Pitcher Logan Robinson '18 was named tournament MVP after throwing 20 consecutive shutout innings as the Eagles defeated Washington Latin, Wilson, and the Quakers.

And varsity tennis won its first DCSAA team title, powered by victories in both singles (Lizzie Baker '17) and doubles (Mya Spencer '20 and Kate Nuechterlein '20). The singles final was an all-NCS affair, with Baker taking on Spencer. Baker has reached the finals in all three DCSAA tournaments, and this was her second victory.

One week earlier, varsity lacrosse won the ISL's Division A tournament with a 13-12 nail-biter over Flint Hill. And this week track and field competes in the DCSAA meet.

Congratulations to all these squads!
