Alarie '16 Helps Team USA Win Silver Medal

Bella Alarie '16 helped lead Team USA to a silver medal at the FIBA U19 World Cup basketball tournament last week in Udine, Italy.

In her first international tournament, Alarie started all seven games for the red, white, and blue, finishing as Team USA's top shot-blocker and second-leading rebounder. On a loaded roster, Alarie averaged 7.3 points and 8.1 rebounds a game while playing only about half the game.

Her most extended outing came in the gold-medal game against Russia, a rematch of the 2015 U19 World Cup championship game. Alarie played a team-high 36 minutes and grabbed 12 rebounds and scored six points. But Russia rallied in the final minutes to pull out an 86-82 victory. Team USA finished the World Cup with a 6-1 record and earned a medal for the ninth straight time.

The tournament completed a year in which Alarie led Princeton University in scoring and rebounding and set a school record for blocked shots by a freshman. The Ivy League named her its Rookie of the Year.

Congratulations on your amazing season, Bella!
