31 NCS Students Win Honors in Arts Contest

The regional Art & Writing Awards recognized 11 Upper School students for creating the most accomplished works in the region.
The annual Scholastic Art & Writing Awards have honored 11 NCS students for creating the most accomplished works in the region.

The artists were awarded for photography, painting, and short story, critical essay, and personal essay/memoir writings. The Gold Key winners now advance to the national Scholastic Art & Writing Awards competition, where winners receive scholarships.

They were among 31 NCS students—one-tenth of the Upper School—who were recognized in the Art & Writing Awards; presented by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, the competition highlights students with exceptional artistic and literary talent. Silver Keys were awarded for distinguished works, and promising works received honorable mention.

Thirteen students won multiple awards: Izzy Allum '19, Alex Bamford '19, Esther Eriksson von Allmen '19, Josephine Freis '21, Isabella Haiz '20, Katherine Leahy '19, Sophia McNicholas '20, Meghfira Mohammed '20, Mallory Moore '18, HaoMin SiMa '18, Ileana Small '20, Jamie Wang '19, and Maggie Wang '19.

Seven students were repeat honorees: Moore and SiMa were recognized for the third consecutive year and Leahy, Emma Kapani '20, Eriksson von Allmen, Nicole Owens '19, and Jamie Wang for the second time.

All award recipients will be honored March 4 at the National 4-H Conference Center in Chevy Chase, Md. The Media Gallery includes a selection of this year's Gold and Silver Key-winning visual works. Here are the NCS artists and writers who were recognized:
