For 65th Time, NCS Inducts Seniors Into Cum Laude Society

NCS inducted 15 seniors on Thursday into the Cum Laude Society, signifying their scholastic achievement at the school.

Mathematics teacher Patricia Howie, the Cum Laude chapter president, noted that this year's inductees represent the 65th class to join the society. Each year, 20 percent of the senior class is selected for the society, based on academic excellence in 10th through 12th grade.

The ceremony was highlighted by a keynote speech from Head of School Kathleen O'Neill Jamieson, who told the students, "You've already assumed great responsibility, and you've brought great honor to your school in so many ways. Today is a striking moment to reflect on your growth."

She applauded the inductees "for the innumerable decisions that you made along the way to accomplish what you have. You are poised to graduate with honors, and you've done that in the context of very full lives, with multiple and sometimes competing demands on you."

And she asked the seniors to reflect on what motivated them to achieve such heights, what tested them along the way, and what sustained them. "I pray that faith, family, and friends have sustained you, and always will," Jamieson said.
