Rowing and Softball Each Complete Three-Peats

NCS's rowing and softball teams completed a trio of three-peats over the weekend by claiming championships in two major competitions.

For the third consecutive year, National Cathedral School swept the senior-eight and second-eight titles at the Stotesbury Cup Regatta. Both crews reigned over their competition, posting their divisions' fastest time in every race — time trial, semifinal, and final.

In Saturday's finals, the second eight stroked to the finish line just ahead of Whitman High, while the senior eight held off a late charge from Mount St. Joseph (Pa.) to triumph. For eight seniors—Beata Corcoran '18, Sophie Dunn '18, Caroline Garcia '18, Rory Meyer '18, Eva Phelps '18, Amelia Parizek '18, Camilla Ryder '18, and Hannah Yazdani '18—the regatta completed a perfect record of four Stotesbury gold medals in four years. All were in the NCS boat that captured the freshman eight race in 2015.

This year's freshman eight advanced to the final as well and placed sixth. The junior four took 34th place in Friday's time trial, and the senior four were 47th.

Varsity softball won its third straight District of Columbia State Athletic Association (DCSAA) championship—and its fourth in five years—by defeating Georgetown Visitation on Sunday in the title game, 9-1.

Jamie Wang '19 threw a two-hitter, striking out six. She also came through at the plate, clobbering a three-run home run as part of a seven-run fourth inning that clinched the championship banner.

NCS also defeated St. John's College High School and Model Secondary School for the Deaf en route to the DCSAA championship.

On Friday, Kate Nuechterlein '20 and Yvonne LopezDavila '21 won the doubles title at the DCSAA's varsity tennis championships, and Nuechterlein also took third place in singles. This was Nuechterlein's second DCSAA doubles titles in as many tries; she teamed with Mya Spencer '20 to win last year's championship.

As a team, NCS took second place at the DCSAA meet.

Congratulations to all of these athletes!
