Upper School Teacher Honored by University of Chicago

Social Sciences teacher Devon Williams has been recognized by the University of Chicago as an Outstanding Educator for the impact she has made in the lives of her students.

The university bestows the award annually to teachers; nominations come from freshmen newly enrolled at the school. Williams was nominated by Katherine Boggs ’18, who wrote in a separate letter to her former teacher, “Thank you for sharing your knowledge and passion for learning with your students. You have truly set an example for teachers around the world, not only by being kind and thoughtful, but also by being realistic and honest with your students to make them better.”

Williams, who has been at NCS since 2014, teaches U.S. History, History Through Film, and Modern World History in the Upper School.

“We are thrilled that Devon Williams has been recognized by the University of Chicago for her excellent teaching, based on the nomination of an NCS alumna. Ms. Williams’ students recognize her expertise and are inspired by her commitment to them as students of history and teenagers with full lives. I enjoy the fact that her classroom is on the main level of Hearst Hall, and I have the daily opportunity to see the energy and interest in her classroom throughout the day,” said Head of School Kathleen O’Neill Jamieson.
