Head of Middle School

National Cathedral School (NCS) seeks a full-time Head of Middle School to lead a division of approximately 125 girls in grades 7 and 8 and 30 faculty members, beginning July 1, 2019. The Head reports to the Head of School and is a member of the NCS administrative team. This person is charged with ensuring the continuing excellence of all aspects of the division’s operation in the context of the school’s mission. NCS desires a visionary middle school educator who will lead faculty and staff and inspire students, work that will be done with the guidance of the 2018-2023 Strategic Plan. In addition, as a member of the Head of School’s leadership team, the Middle School head will assume a management role of grade 4-12 initiatives, dependent on experience and interests. The Head of Middle School works in close collaboration with the Associate Head/Head of Upper School and the Head of Lower School to coordinate a comprehensive grade 4-12 program. The Middle School head will be expected to teach the equivalent of one class.
 
Qualified applicants will have substantial administrative and teaching experience (approximately 10 years or more) in the middle school grades. Qualified candidates will be well versed in relevant research on girls’ education and adolescent development. Evidence of excellent oral and written communication skills is required; strong interpersonal skills in relation to middle school children and their parents is expected. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in leading faculty as they assess and enhance school programs, both curricular and extracurricular. The ideal candidate will be keenly aware of innovative middle school programs around the country and the world. An advanced degree is preferred; a bachelor’s degree is required.
 
National Cathedral School serves 585 students in grades 4 through 12.
