Parents Association Elects Leadership for 2019-2020

On Wednesday, the NCS Parents Association elected executive officers for the 2019-2020 school year, and outgoing President Gay Truscott '80 thanked the more than 140 parent volunteers who helped make the school more connected and cohesive.

Among the volunteer contributions highlighted by Truscott were a record-breaking Spring Benefit, class activities enjoyed by students and parents alike, two events organized jointly by the NCS and St. Albans Parents Associations, and committee work that expanded the programmatic offerings of the school. Examples of the last include the International Committee's "Global Conversations" series, the Arts Committee's Visual Arts Fellowships, and the Parent Education Committee's sessions with teachers on forensic science, learning Chinese, and religious studies.

Truscott was also recognized by Head of School Kathleen O'Neill Jamieson and Director of Development Richard Hastings for her leadership this year on these initiatives and more. In addition, Jamieson noted Truscott's service on behalf of parents with her work on the Governing Board and the Head of School Search Committee.

The following officers for 2019-2020 were unanimously elected by the PA:
  • President: Julie Scott
  • Upper School VP: Carrie Goux
  • Middle School VP: Mary Kushan
  • Lower School VP: Melissa Boasberg '86
  • Finance VP: Donald Brown
  • Secretary: Virginia Pommer
  • Parent Education VP: Martha Searby
  • Representative to the Parents Council of Washington: Kristi Drefke
  • Representative to St. Albans PA: Husnal Gill
The PA also offered farewell gifts to Jamieson, who is leaving NCS next month after 16 years: a crystal bowl engraved with an inscription from the association, and a rare copy of the 1928 book "The Life and Personality of Phoebe Apperson Hearst," a biography written shortly after the death of Hearst, whose gift provided for the founding of National Cathedral School in 1900.

Thank you to the Parents Association for its invaluable work this year in pursuit of our Strategic Plan priority to strengthen community connections.
