Wang '19 Named Softball Player of Year for D.C.

Jamie Wang '19 concluded her remarkable softball career at NCS with a couple of late-season awards, including being named the 2019 Gatorade District of Columbia Softball Player of the Year.

Wang helped lead NCS (10-6) to its fourth consecutive District of Columbia State Athletic Association title last month. She struck out 181 batters in 104 innings pitched, recording a 10-4 win-loss record. She also shone at the plate, batting .481 and driving in 24 runs.

The Gatorade judges also recognized Wang's outstanding academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field. She is a member of the Cum Laude Society, and her artwork has been recognized the past three years in the annual Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.

Wang was also chosen last month by the District of Columbia State Athletic Association as a recipient of a DCSAA Student-Athlete Academic Scholarship. The award recognizes her superior performance in volleyball, basketball, and squash, in addition to softball.

Wang enrolled at NCS in 9th grade and quickly established her ability in softball: She made the varsity as a freshman and, by season's end, was starting at catcher and earned all-Independent School League honors. She was an annual all-ISL pick throughout her NCS career, and last year she was a first-team Washington Post All-Met selection (this year's picks have not been announced). Wang was also a member of the 2013 McLean, Va., team that reached the finals of the Little League Softball World Series.

Wang is the fourth NCS softball player to win D.C. Player of the Year recognition from Gatorade, after Alie Kolbe (2007 and 2008), Sarah Ing (2012, 2013, and 2014), and Logan Robinson (2018). Wang's selection makes her eligible for Gatorade's National Softball Player of the Year award, to be announced later this month.

Congratulations to Jamie on this well-deserved honor!
