Moore ’20 Wins D.C. Congressional Art Competition

A rising NCS senior will have her artwork displayed at the U.S. Capitol for the coming year after she won the 2019 D.C. Congressional Art Competition last month.

Gillian Moore ’20 was announced the winner by Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.) at a May 22 ceremony. Moore’s work “Crowded” will join those of other high school artists from the 50 states on display in the Cannon Tunnel. She also receives a scholarship to the Savannah College of Art and Design, as well as an iPad, and she has been invited to a reception of artists, hosted by the competition sponsor, the Congressional Institute, later this month.

Two other NCS students, Olivia Harley ’19 and Sarah Asher ’21, were among 16 finalists in the D.C. contest. The Congressional Art Competition annually draws tens of thousands of entries from around the country.

This school year, Moore won a Gold Key in the regional annual Scholastic Art & Writing Awards for a different artwork, she was one of the inaugural NCS Visual Arts Fellows, and the National Society of Arts and Letters's Washington, D.C., chapter awarded her a Certificate of Merit in Art.

Congratulations to Gillian on this latest recognition!
