Barta '22 Wins Two Track and Field Medals at Parapan Games

Sydney Barta '22 won a gold medal and a bronze medal this week at the Parapan American Games in Lima, Peru, breaking a 12-year-old meet record along the way.

Barta edged fellow American Beatriz Haiz to the tape in the 200 meters, finishing in 28.09 seconds. That was more than a second faster than the previous Parapans record, set in 2007 by Canadian Stefanie Reid.

Barta finished third in the discus with a throw of 26.71 meters, improving her personal best by more than eight meters.

The pair of medals join two Barta won earlier in August at the World Para Athletics Junior Championships.

What a terrific summer performance for Sydney against international competition! We look forward to celebrating with her back on the Close when classes resume.
