May '20 Named National Merit Scholar

Audrey May '20 has been named a National Merit Scholar, a recognition from a select committee of her accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in college. May is among 2,500 students nationally to receive a $2,500 scholarship from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

In April, May was inducted into NCS's Cum Laude Society chapter, a signal of her high academic standing among the Class of 2020. She also received the Technology Award at the inaugural School Awards and Closing Ceremony in early June. During the 2018-2019 school year, May was awarded the Rensselaer Medal for distinguished achievement in math and science.

This year, May was a member of the Science Olympiad team and the Upper School Robotics team. She has also been involved in planning the school's annual "hackathon." May sang in Madrigals and the Upper School Chorale, and this year she participated in cross country and indoor rock climbing.

A committee of college admissions officers and high school counselors determined the list of National Merit Scholars, based on information submitted by National Merit Finalists and their schools. The data included a student's academic record, scores from two standardized tests, contributions and leadership in school and community activities, an essay, and a recommendation written by a school official. Avery Borgmann '20, Sophia Charles '20, Amelia Griffin '20, and Iris Wu '20 joined May in being named National Merit Finalists this spring.

Since the school year of 1980-1981, 55 NCS students have been recognized as National Merit Scholars.

Congratulations, Audrey!
