Susan Rice '82 Chosen for Cabinet Position in Biden Administration
Susan Rice '82 has been chosen by President-elect Joe Biden to lead the White House Domestic Policy Council in his incoming administration. Rice previously served as President Barack Obama’s national security adviser and as ambassador to the United Nations.
At NCS, Rice was student government president, winner of the Flag Day award (NCS’s highest academic honor), and recipient of the Helen Harker Gift, voted by her peers. Rice earned an undergraduate degree from Stanford and both a master’s degree and a doctorate in international relations from New College at Oxford University, where she was a Rhodes Scholar. She worked as a management consultant for McKinsey & Company before joining the Clinton administration, where she served on the National Security Council and as assistant secretary of state for African affairs at the State Department. She then became a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution and served as a foreign policy adviser to John Kerry’s presidential campaign in 2004 and as the senior foreign policy adviser to the Barack Obama presidential campaign in 2008. Rice is married to Ian Cameron, and they have two children. Their daughter attended NCS for five years.
