4 Seniors Named National Merit Semifinalists

Four NCS seniors were among 16,000 students nationwide named as semifinalists in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program. This honor establishes them among the top 1 percent of U.S. high school seniors who took last fall's PSAT (Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test).

Arya Balian '22, Sydney Barta '22, Anna Riccardi '22, and Hannah Shumsky '22 were selected on the basis of their scores last October on the PSAT, which is taken by about 1.6 million high school juniors each year.

The four semifinalists are now eligible to apply for consideration as a National Merit Finalist, a determination based on test scores, academic records, recommendations, and essays. The National Merit Scholarship Corp. will announce the finalists in February.

Eleven other NCS seniors were recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Corp. as Commended Students:
  • Theodora Barassi '22
  • Keira Cornwell '22
  • Helena DuMoulin '22
  • Haanah Fasihi '22

  • Honor Johnson '22
  • Katrina Merva '22
  • Natalie Minor '22
  • Kendall Pade '22
