On January 17, students and families from NCS, St. Albans, and Beauvoir celebrated MLK day together through a joint day of service. Students and families had a host of ways to be involved from home and through outdoor volunteer activities. Some of the activities included:
Food Insecurity-- While engaging with students on issues of food insecurity and its impact on residents of the district and surrounding areas, students and families
Supported Martha’s Table by making trail mix for future delivery
Supported We Are Family by volunteering with grocery delivery
Season of Love for local elders & children!-- Students & families supported local seniors, during our Season of Love by
Creating handmade valentines
Contributing to senior care kits
Donating blood to Children’s National Hospital
Sustainability & Environmental Justice – Students and Families volunteered with these initiatives by helping with urban farm maintenance, trash pickup, and park maintenance. They joined the following organizations:
Washington Parks & People for special MLK Day park clean up
Rock Creek Conservancy ML King Day/Weekend activities
