Lida Benson Named Outstanding Performing Artist

Each year, one NCS senior and STA senior are selected by a combined vote of the NCS and STA Upper School students.  The recipients have their names inscribed on a plaque. The award, established nine years ago, is donated by former STA parent Joyce Brently and her son Nick STA ’02.

The awards announcement capped the night’s program in Trapier Theater, which featured George Steel STA '84, artistic director of the New York City Opera. Steel regaled the audience with accounts of his early days at St. Albans, where he sang as a chorister, met Leonard Bernstein, and started on an unlikely but ultimately successful path to his role today as a leading arts administrator. The audience also enjoyed a performance of “For the Longest Time” by the quintet of performing arts faculty Benjamin Hutto, Scott Wood, Charles Bowers, Maurice Johnson, and Peter Saunders.

The NCS and STA communities extend their thanks to event co-chairs Lydia Benson (Lida NCS ’10) and Anna Stewart (Charles STA ’10) for organizing the event for the second year in a row.
